OEM POLICY

Recognizing and Maintaining the Distinction Between OEM and AM Markets

It is essential to maintain a clear separation between the OEM and AM markets. Each serves a different purpose, targets a specific audience, and follows a distinct distribution model.

OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer)

OEM saddles are those supplied directly by the bicycle manufacturer at the time of purchase. They are the original saddles, designed to meet the quality, safety, and ergonomic standards set by the bike brand. Their main advantage is perfect compatibility with the bicycle, both technically and aesthetically.

AM (Aftermarket)

Aftermarket (AM) saddles, on the other hand, are produced by specialized companies with the aim of enhancing the original component. These saddles can provide more advanced solutions in terms of comfort, materials, design, or adjustability compared to OEM products.

In summary:

  • OEM = guarantee of compatibility, standards, and manufacturer’s quality.

  • AM = greater variety, customization options, and potential improvements, but with varying quality across different brands.

Important note: OEM products must not be sold in the AM market.

Main Differences Between OEM and AM Products

Technical Specifications:
OEM and AM products differ in terms of materials, technologies, and weight. OEM products may be tailored to the needs defined during the production process in collaboration with the bike brand.

Graphics and Design:
Unlike AM saddles, OEM saddles feature black covers with tone-on-tone logos. The rail design is also different and has a black color.
Note: The tone-on-tone black cover design was introduced in the second half of the 2025 calendar year, so you may still find OEM products with the previous (AM-like) graphics.

Packaging: AM products come in original, branded packaging, while OEM products are supplied without packaging.

Warranty

If you purchase an OEM product from a retailer intended for the AM market, Prologo will not cover the two-year warranty required by European law (Directive 1999/44/EC and subsequent updates), which applies exclusively to AM products purchased through authorized retailers. Instead, the retailer who sold you the OEM product will be responsible for warranty claims.

This is because the sale of OEM products through Aftermarket channels is not authorized by Prologo.

Maintaining a clear distinction between OEM and AM channels allows Prologo to ensure transparency in technical specifications, integrity in performance, and consumer protection.
